Mariners beat Rays 5-2 to avoid sweep

George Kirby allowed one run in six innings, Cal Raleigh hit a three-run homer as the Seattle Mariners defeated the Tampa Bay Rays 5-2 to prevent a sweep on Wednesday.

Seattle ended their trip with a 3-6 record, being the only division leader with a losing road record at 19-25.

In the ninth inning, Seattle closer Andrés Muñoz managed to secure the win despite loading the bases with no outs. The game ended with a double play by Amed Rosario, giving Trent Thornton his first big league save.

PIRATES 6, REDS 1

Andrew McCutchen's two-run homer and Luis L. Ortiz's strong pitching performance led to a 6-1 victory for the Pittsburgh Pirates against the Cincinnati Reds.

Pittsburgh took two out of three games from the Reds for the second consecutive week, with Rowdy Tellez and Jason Delay also contributing offensively.

Ortiz's impressive outing included six innings of one-run ball with seven strikeouts and no walks. Kyle Nicolas and Aroldis Chapman also pitched well to secure the win for Pittsburgh.
